Norway x Reader: Beside You Ch1

( A/N: This is a series that I'm going to start. I know this chapter doesn't mention anything about Norway at first, but just wait and see. The Denmark x Reader moment here is really necessary for the rest of the plot. Don't worry, there will be eventual Norway x Reader in the future chapters. Read the description for more details.)

Norway x Reader: Beside You

When your tears are spent, on your last pretense
And your tired eyes refuse to close and sleep in your defense
When it's in your spine, like you've walked for miles
And the only thing you want is just to be still for a while


You wiped the tears forming in your eyes again. Ever since your boyfriend, Matthias, died; the days and nights seemed to be longer. Not a day would pass by without you thinking about him- and what could've happened if he didn't die in the car crash in which you survived from. You kept on blaming yourself for what happened, and the fact that you're the one alive now- it added up to the guilt and grief that you're now feeling.


-Flashback-

"You can't dictate me on who should I hang-out with, Matthias!" you answered back sharply to your boyfriend who was fuming on the driver's seat. It didn't help that no matter how fast the wiper moves back and forth, rain kept on pouring on the windshield.

"And did I say anything about that, _________?" he retorted. "Do you remember me implying that? The problem with you is that you always get defensive about people concerning you!" he said as he held on to the steering wheel with a death grip.

"And how could I not when you accuse them of ridiculous things? For heaven's sake, they don't even make sense at all!" you said back, your voice finally rising to a shout.

He was about to say something when his eyes widened all of a sudden and he started to turn the steering wheel desperately, yet your car won't cooperate. You looked at the windshield and gasped at what awaits the both of you in front.

"__________!!!!" Matthias shouted. And the last thing you saw before waking up in a hospital room was that of Matthias throwing himself in front of you to shield you from the impact.

-End of flashback-


The reason why you keep on blaming yourself was because you were having a fight with him. Even though the weather was also to blame, you can't help it but put yourself to blame for what happened. If only you weren't shouting at him... Then maybe he wouldn't have lost focus and maybe he would still be alive... Alive beside you.

And then you thought of the moment when he saved your life in the car crash even though it eventually cost him his own. Even though he knew he would die of it, even though you were mad at him, he gave his life for you. He showed his love for you until his very last moment.

The idea of it brought more tears to your eyes. You tried to prevent it by closing your eyes, but then you just knew that they are now falling freely onto your cheeks. Looking around your room, you never realized until now that almost everything reminded you of Matthias.

You rested your gaze on the framed picture of you and Matthias sitting on top of your night-table. It reminded you of the times when you were both so happy. Seeing him and yourself hugging each other and smiling in the picture brought so many memories to your clouded mind.

As if it could lessen the pain you're feeling, you brought the picture frame to your chest and tried to lull yourself to sleep with memories of Matthias and you.
